About this talk

In 2020, the Bibliothèque de Beaumont Library (BBL) completed a diversity audit of our picture book collection. Using a systematic coding process, we were able to measure how inclusive our collection was and understand where we need to focus budget to ensure racial, gender, sexual, and body diversity representation.

With a collection of over thirty-four hundred children's titles, completing this audit was no small task. In this presentation, I will discuss how we broke down our project, how we tackled the challenges of working with picture books, and what coding categories we used. Finally, I will discuss the results of the audit, what our analysis told us, and how we are using that information to ensure a better picture book collection. By the end of this presentation, you will have the tools you need to complete your own picture book diversity audit, understand your results, and use those results to ensure a more inclusive collection for your community.”
