I enjoy collaborating with OCLC members showing how the cooperative's shared resources can benefit their libraries. The unique shared data of WorldCat for bibliographic records, knowledge base data, and shared serial patterns, license terms and vendor records reduces redundant tasks. The shared technology infrastructure allows everyone to benefit from the network effect of cloud technology and multi-tenancy which enables automatic software updates. The active community within the nonprofit library cooperative facilitates the sharing of best practices, product enhancements and development of services. Introducing innovative ways of operating, I help libraries increase efficiencies, maximize libraries' time and resources, review implications of service challenges and grow the returns on investments in cloud-based library management services.
For twenty years I have worked in information management with libraries across western Canada. My professional experience includes working with academic and public libraries, government information services, and oil and gas information management.
My passion and commitment to the library world began with my undergraduate degree in library science and dovetailed with my MBA. Both degrees from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, enable me to hone in on professional librarianship issues and the business aspects of operating libraries in today's fast-changing environment.
Outside of work, I enjoy gardening (when the Calgary climate allows), weight training, hiking and skiing in the Rockies, traveling, volunteering in my community, and spending time with my wife and our 15-year-old daughter.
